Fly Flat Home
This design-build project was designed with 7 other team members. It has won the Grand Prize award and 1st place Urban Home for The Race to Zero Competition, AIA Houston Award, and the Texas Society of Architects Studio Award. My roles were to regulate and verify the requirements of the home to meet all certifications towards net zero/ Passive House, develop the research into concept diagrams, and produce the sustainable diagram.
LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES LIKE ACRES HOMES, INCLUDES MANY ABANDONED VACANT LOTS THAT ARE OWNED BY THE LAND ASSEMBLAGE REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (LARA) AND SOLD FOR THE COST OF ONE DOLLAR WITH AN AGREEMENT TO CONSTRUCT LOW-INCOME HOUSING. TO ADDRESS THE NEED OF A SUPPORTIVE SOCIAL NETWORK IN CREATING HEALTHY FAMILIES, WE UTILIZE THE STRATEGY OF CREATING A POCKET COMMUNITY WITH INFILL HOUSING PROMOTING SOCIAL RESILIENCE. WE APPROACH THE PROJECT FROM A MODULAR PERSPECTIVE DUE TO THE COMPLETION OF OUR FABRICATION LAB AT PRAIRIE VIEW A&M. OUR GOAL IS TO DESIGN, ENERGY MODEL, AND BUILD VARIOUS OPTIONS TO PROVIDE AFFORDABLE, MODULAR, HIGH-PERFORMANCE HOUSING TO A LOW-INCOME COMMUNITY.
